Teacher Jackie was born and raised in Philippines and speaks three languages. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master Teacher certificate in Child and Family Studies with specialization in infant and toddler from Napa Valley College. She also holds a Child and Family Studies, Teacher Administration certificate. After graduating from college in 1999, she traveled to Bahrain, Hong Kong, and Australia, caring for families as an au pair. In 2005, she emigrated from Hong Kong to the U.S., living and working in Marin County with a prominent family.
For 24 years, Teacher Jackie provided child care to families and learn different cultures and beliefs. In 2013, Teacher Jackie decided to further her study in early childhood education (child and family studies) by enrolling in Napa Valley College and open a child care at her home in 2014. In 2018, due to an increase need of high quality child care in Napa, Teacher Jackie expanded her small family child care to large family child care, Soaring Wings. Soaring Wings focuses on individualized small group care of children with an emphasis on individual interest, strengths, and needs. She believes that children grow and learn at their own pace, drawing on multiple philosophies, including Reggio Emelia, Waldorf, and Montessori. She believes that it is important not to limit the developmental capabilities and interests of children. Let the children have a choice in the learning process, contributing to their self-esteem and self-regulation. Aside from founding and managing Soaring Wings, Teacher Jackie continues to work directly with children because she feels passionate about teaching and loves to work with children. When not working at Soaring Wings, Teacher Jackie loves to do outdoor activities such as camp, hike, mountain bike, road trip, plays tennis, badminton and volleyball, attend Zumba and yoga classes, sing karaoke, cook international cuisine, travel and visit her friends and families around the world.
Jackie is also a Family Child Care Advocate at the state and local level, which involves lobbying for child care through measures such as SB 234, passed to help increase accessibility of child care. She is an active member of National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC), and California Family Child Care Network (CFCCN).
